Our food is hearty fare for sharing, and plenty of it. You need a good re-fuelling after a day on the mountain. Dishes draw inspiration from Jamie Oliver, Ottolenghi and the traditional french mountain dishes. Of course delicious options for vegetarians are on offer too. Let us know of any food allergies or special requests, and we'll work out a menu to suit.

When you get back from the slopes, there's afternoon tea & cake ready to tuck into. Favourites from our tasting panel included lemon drizzle cake, red velvet cupcakes, and good old-fashioned scones with jam and cream.

Location

We're an hour from Geneva, and just 3 minutes to any of the local lifts in our minibus shuttle (all included).

The ski area is the Grand Massif - 265km of awesome skiing - both in the villages and up in the Flaine bowl. There's local ski schools & ski hire at both Samoens & Morillon - and we can help with getting both fixed up for you. There's options to get skis delivered to chalet so they're ready for you on arrival, or ski hire up the mountain with a ski-locker included so you've less to carry at either end of the day.

We're just a 5-10 minute walk to the village of Morillon, or 5-10 minutes on the free ski-bus into the bigger Samoëns. Samoëns has lovely shopping, cafes/bars, ice-skating, botanical garden & spa facilities - so good for any non-ski days.

Facilities

The ground floor of the chalet is mostly given over to open plan space. Four big sliding doors flood the room with light. When the nights draws in, drop the shutters (James Bond style - on a remote control) and pull the curtains to make it cosy. Or leave it a while and enjoy the view up the snowy-lane.

There's a big dining area, with seating for 14 at the stylish oak dining table. The copper-coloured inners of the lampshades give a warm atmospheric glow at dinner.

The contemporary styled wood-burning stove is the centre-piece of the spacious lounge area. There's two big sofas and two 1950s classic fireside chairs giving plenty of space for lounging (snoozing) with a book, or chatting with friends.

Choose a book from the library and settle down for a good read. If you haven’t finished a book by the time you leave, take it with you, and pass it on to a charity shop when you’re done.

Or choose something from the games-chest and get competitive. Last year's favourites were 'Cards Against Humanity', and 'Ticket to Ride'.

All rooms are comfortably furnished with items we’ve restored or repurposed, and some that we’ve collected on our travels over the years. And we do love a big fluffy towel, so there’s plenty of those too.

Bedrooms

Upstairs, there are four enormous ensuite bedrooms. Ceilings reach right up into the apex of the chalet roof, and have distinctive long dangling lampshades to make the most of the space. These rooms are huge (~25m2) with space for extra beds to create family rooms. We have flexibility on rooms - doubles/twins/triples/quads according to group make-up.

The ground floor bedroom is a standard double, and the ensuite is a level access wet room, well-suited to those with reduced mobility.

Breakfasts

We lay out a buffet breakfast from 7:30, with croissants & baguettes, a variety of jams and marmalades, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, yoghurts, cereals & muesli selection, fruits and juices. (We do keep a stock of frosties and coco-pops for the kids, but we’ll check with parents first before putting them out, in case you’re trying to avoid the sugary-snacks)

Dinner

Dinner usually kicks off with aperos at 7pm, and sitting down to eat at 7:30pm. If you'd like to do an earlier dinner for children, just let us know and we'll fix that up for you. There’s three courses, followed by coffee (including de-caff if the regular stuff keeps you awake). We usually start the week with a local dish, and finish with an international flavour (apparently you can get ‘cheesed out’ in the mountains). Favourites from the test-tasters included tartiflette, boeuf-bourguignon, and a thai red curry. And the Ottolenghi lamb schwarma deserves a special mention. Wine with dinner is included, and we've carefully chosen a lovely house red & white. From bottles, not decanted from a box hidden the kitchen!
